Thanks for taking the time to chat with SIW. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog.

Aishwarya : I live in Los Angeles , I have done Masters in Biology-major in Botany from Vikram University India, had a business in India, moved to US after getting married. I worked for a few years, taking a break for now but busy editing my website. I launched this website after getting a lot of encouragement from a local social media group where I wrote about Indian Marathi Festivals and simple steps to perform them. This effort is to promote Indian culture to the second generation NRI’s and to the young professionals who undergo intercultural marriages.

What makes your blog so unique and why should people read it?

Aishwarya : Well I research a lot  by reading our ancient scriptures, interview senior members of the community/ family /friends and put together all the information about our festivals, steps to perform them and the most important is to discuss their scientific relevance in today’s era. This is the main theme of this website. Besides this I also encourage readers to send any related articles, music, recipe or artwork to share with others and make it interesting, so basically making it a one stop resource page . Thanks to all readers for contributing and encouraging me so far.

How often do you blog?

Aishwarya : There is no fix schedule , it depends upon the upcoming festival, I put all the information about it. And update whenever I get articles from my readers so pretty much every day there is something to update.

What has been your most successful blog post to date and what was it about?

Aishwarya : I have a section on ” Sola Sanskar” [ 16 rituals of life] and I wrote about ” Garbh Sanskar” [ Pregnancy Period dos and don’ts ] that was a hit and I got invited to write some more by a tv channel in India.

What do you find most challenging about blogging?

Aishwarya : It’s a hard work. You need to have passion about it. The time factor is a big challenge, if I am out of town, it does get slow and reader’s traffic gets affected. You need to keep updating useful information. Your work should be unique and readers should find it special.

What are some of your favorite author blogs and why?

Aishwarya : Well I like the work of Preeti Deo from London, who is a food blogger and also shared her unique recipes with me. Her blog is icing cakes and more.

What are your favorite books that you would recommend SIW family?

Aishwarya : I am basically not a book reader, I read all ancient Indian scriptures to dig information and love doing this.

Can we really make a living by Blogging? If yes, how we can do that?

Aishwarya : Well In my case I have started this as a volunteer initiative. All I am looking at is to cover the maintenance cost of the website. I am getting a few sponsorships towards it. At this point I cannot tell anything about business point of view.

What advice would you give to young women readers of SIW who want to follow a similar career path as you?

Aishwarya : Well I am still learning but I personally follow this:

Follow your dream, think out of the box, and make your passion your living.  Do not get discouraged if you have to face a temporary down time or non supportive environment around you.
