Thanks for taking the time to chat with SIW. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog.

Anjana : I’m originally from Uttar Pradesh India, but have been living in Dubai for the past 30 years. I started blogging after my daughter’s marriage – to make a online journal of all my recipes so that she could access them easily. It’s been three years since I’ve been blogging now, and the blog is like a full time job for me now.

What makes your blog so unique and why should people read it?

Anjana : My blog focuses on sattvic cooking – all recipes are made without using onions and garlics. Besides the fact that it promotes good health, has authentic Indian home cooking recipes – it also is a testimony to the fact that great Indian food can be made without using onions and garlics. Something which surprises pretty much every one who has tried my recipes.

How often do you blog?

Anjana : Two – three times a week.

What has been your most successful blog post to date and what was it about?

Anjana : My most popular posts have mostly been around homemade pickles and chutneys. Amongst recent posts I guess the recipe of authentic Kashmiri dum aloo got a lot of appreciation from some of my favorite bloggers.

What do you find most challenging about blogging?

Anjana : Maintaining frequency. Making good quality posts two-three times a week and maintaining a household is not easy.

Can we really make a living by Blogging? If yes, how we can do that?

Anjana : Monetizing a blog is very possible – but “making a living” takes a fair amount of time (viewership of a million views per month). Blogs focused on earning are usually open on doing paid campaigns, endorsements, etc. Make sure you take up only opportunities which you are certain will add value to your blog, and benefit your audience.
