Thanks for taking the time to chat with SIW. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog.

Aruna : I am a doctor, aged 50, an Obs Gyn Specialist working in the Indian Army as a Colonel. Married to an Army Officer with 2 children aged 22 and 15.

I started blogging a few months ago. I have always loved writing and find the easiest medium of expressing my views thoughts and opinions, all of which, I have many!

I blog about life in general be it memoirs, travel, happiness my family, my relationships. Its a personal blog.

What makes your blog so unique and why should people read it?

Aruna : My blog is as unique as I am. It is me. I believe that every person is unique and will always have something to share. It may not be educative always, but an experience shared has the power to change another person’s day, life and thoughts.

I am planning to start another page on my professional inputs and advice for women.

But I would not slot my blog into any particular category or type.

Its as free as I am. I find categorizing a blog into a particular type very restrictive. As it is a personal blog, it is as varied as life itself. It goes where my thoughts take me. i often use the WordPress daily prompt but my thoughts even on the prompts would be unique – each one has a different take even on a prompt and that makes each blog unique.

People may find an echo in my blogs as I write on life itself. I write in my various capacities as a woman – a daughter a wife, a mother, a friend, a sister, a doctor, a working woman. All familiar roles that every woman plays, so it is easy to identify with my blog.

How often do you blog?

Aruna : I blog about 3 times a week .

Sometimes, I blog even twice a day.  It depends on my time, inclination and response.

What has been your most successful blog post to date and what was it about?

Aruna : If Successful means likes and comments and other interactions, I guess it was on Memories of my life at Medical College. I got an offer to write for the digital college magazine run by the present editorial board. I draw inspiration from my own life and the life I lead as a multi-tasker.

What do you find most challenging about blogging?

Aruna : The most challenging part about blogging is finding an audience. The initial breakthrough is very important and it can be frustrating not to get any views or feedback after a well written piece, especially if it closes to your heart.

It is also difficult to find the time to blog, but I find it is as calming and inspiring as it is challenging.

What are some of your favorite author blogs and why?

Aruna : I like many of them and follow many

What are your favorite books that you would recommend SIW family?

Aruna : Thorn Birds by Colleen Mc Collough

Doctors by Erich Segal

Who Moved my Cheese

What advice would you give to young women readers of SIW who want to follow a similar career path as you?

Aruna : I had always wanted to be a doctor. It require s a lot of diligence and sincere efforts to take up medicine and moreover, Obs & Gyn as a career and also sustain a certain pace of life especially for a lady who has to balance home and work.

Having said that this balance gives one immense satisfaction and happiness. My work as an Obstetrician brings happiness to a lot of women and households and I enjoy my work.

I made a career in the Army because I married an Army Officer. It has been very rewarding and fulfilling, combining 2 well respected professions. Army is a way of life and it has widened my horizons both personally and professionally. I owe the Indian army a lot and am proud of being a serving Colonel as well.

Following a career is very important for a woman and I would recommend it to every woman. Financial independence is of paramount relevance to every woman and is the fountainhead of all kinds of independence including emotional independence. A lady can contribute to a family more than anyone else. It is the lady who shapes the future of her child and being a role model is important.

Woman Empowerment starts from home and it should be followed in spirit as well as letter.

Being sincere to your profession is as important. It should not be looked on as a means of livelihood or money alone but a way of pushing one’s own envelope as you give back to the society and nation a small part of what it gives you.

Today there are no ceilings as far as a woman is concerned and I would ask all the young readers to pursue their dream. A home is made by the woman in the house and one should never forget that. It is definitely possible to balance the two with the multitasking abilities that God has gifted a woman with. So go all out to live your own dream and dream for your family as well.

Go for it, Girls! Yes we can!
