Thanks for taking the time to chat with SIW. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog.

Dhiyana : My name is Dhiyana. Born and raised at Madurai, Tamilnadu. Once I finished my degree, I got placed in a MNC as a software Engineer at Bangalore. Currently I am living at US with my beloved husband and two beautiful daughters.

I am blogging for past 6 years at dheekshu.blogspot.com. It is in my mother tongue Tamil. As my non-tamil friends requested me to write in English, I started sparklingbuds.blogspot.com this year. Both of blogs are about activities, games, crafts to be done with kids from ages 0-9. As my elder daughter grows, obviously the age range will increase.

What makes your blog so unique and why should people read it?

Dhiyana : My blog sparklingbuds.blogspot.com gives interesting ideas to play, create, learn with the kids. My blog promotes learning in playful manner. In this hectic world where we have very limited time to spend with the kids, every parent wants to spend quality time with them. I feel that my blog will inspire and give ideas for the parents to make this happen.

How often do you blog?

Dhiyana : When I started blogging, I was blogging 4 times a week. The frequency has changed for past 2 months as I joined back my work. As a family, we are in the learning phase of getting adjusted to both parents working life style. Once we find the rhythm, I will resume my blogging. I feel comfortable blogging at least 2 times a week.

What has been your most successful blog post to date and what was it about?

Dhiyana : My successful blog post to date is “http://sparklingbuds.blogspot.com/2014/07/games-to-play-with-3-year-old-without.html”.

The post is about the games that can be played with 3 year old without any thing. The games do not need anything to play with and they can be played while waiting in the queue or travelling in the car. The post has a very huge page views when compared to my other posts and has been shared in Pinterest for more than 970 times from my blog. The success of the post reminds me that we do not need costly toys to play with the kids!

What do you find most challenging about blogging?

Dhiyana : Time. As a newbie as a working Mom, I find hard to get time to blog. I feel that I can overcome the challenge once I get the grip of new phase.

What are some of your favorite author blogs and why?

Dhiyana : I find inspiration from other blogging Moms which find time to do activities with their kids.

Some of my favorite bloggers are

Dr. Sonia’s –  http://cardsandschoolprojects.blogspot.com/. Although she is a surgeon by Profession, she finds time to create things and blog about them.

http://www.notimeforflashcards.com/ – Former teacher’s quality time with her kids

http://livingmontessorinow.com/ – Collection of Montessori activities from a Montessori teacher

What are your favorite books that you would recommend SIW family?

Dhiyana : My reading interest keeps on changing with my current hobby. I love to read thrillers, accounting books (though I am not from accounting background), related to stocks, parenting and Math. I enjoy reading with my kids and currently we are into Warriors.

Can we really make a living by Blogging? If yes, how we can do that?

Dhiyana : Really I can’t answer this question as I don’t make my living through blogging.  I have placed advertisements in my English blog through Google AdSense and get reasonable income. As I recently started my English blog, I can’t make a living by Blogging as of now. But I feel that blogging has the potential to make a living but it requires commitment and time.

What advice would you give to young women readers of SIW who want to follow a similar career path as you?

Dhiyana : Follow your passion. Take time to do things you enjoy doing!
