Thanks for taking the time to chat with SIW. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog.

Jade : I’m Jade, and I come from a little village called Saligao in Goa. I currently live in Mumbai, where I came to do an MBA and after two years of working at a job, I realized that I’m not meant for the routine 9-5. I don’t know, maybe I’ve just not found a job that made me say, “Hmm…That’s interesting.” I started my own venture and began freelance writing side-by-side.

I always wanted to have a blog, and finally got down to it in Feb 2015, just a few months ago. I’ve dreamed of travelling since forever. And food has always been a passion (not cooking, just eating!)

‘That Goan Girl’ is basically to push me to experiment with food and travel to new places, just so I would have something to write about!

What makes your blog so unique and why should people read it?

Jade : More than anything else, I don’t want my blog to be just an account of things I do, what I like, where I stayed, etc.

Personally, I want to be able to read it after months and relive it. I want the excitement, fear, and amazement and everything else that comes with food and travel to shine through.

My blog has a mix of information, tips and emotion. That’s what makes it unique.

How often do you blog?

Jade : I blog everyday for other companies, so I find it challenging to find time to blog for myself. I try to blog for ‘That Goan Girl’ at least once or twice a week.

What has been your most successful blog post to date and what was it about?

Jade : There are 3 of them, actually:

The first one was on my interaction with Lord Jeffrey Archer, titled “Bollywood Stole My Book”

On my interaction with Sarah Todd, Emelia Jackson and Rishi Desai – finalists of Masterchef Australia 2014

During my recent trip to Canada, I did the CN Tower Edgewalk, which is a hands-free walk on the edge of one of the tallest buildings in the world.

What do you find most challenging about blogging?

Jade : Standing out from an ocean of great bloggers out there… that’s tough.

What are some of your favorite author blogs and why?

Jade : I love Alex in Wonderland, Just One Way Ticket, and The Skinny Confidential. These women bloggers never cease to amaze with their conversational style of writing, fabulous pictures and great things they keep doing.

What are your favorite books that you would recommend SIW family?

Jade : And The Mountains Echoed – Khaled Hosseini

A Thousand Spendid Suns – Khaled Hosseini

The Clifton Chronicles – Jeffrey Archer

Digital Fortress – Dan Brown

Can we really make a living by Blogging? If yes, how we can do that?

Jade : Definitely. It’s a matter of creating content that stands out and would interest readers. Growing one’s follower/subscriber base takes time, patience and consistency. Once you have that in place, you can earn through affiliations and by getting sponsorship.

What advice would you give to young women readers of SIW who want to follow a similar career path as you?

Jade : Building a successful blog takes time and it’s an uphill battle. It’s hard… not just to come up with great content, but because you will feel that nobody is listening. I wish results happened overnight, but they don’t. Weeks or months may go by and you’ll hear only crickets chirping… just like I do right now. Comments and follows will be few and far between. But every great blogger has been through it. Just keep going.
