Thanks for taking the time to chat with SIW. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog.
Natasha : Your welcome. I am currently a full time beauty blogger based in Mumbai . I have worked for International BPO’s in the past catering to clients like Marks & Spencer and Lloyds TSB Bank, UK. I have also worked as an Office for sometime in a school. I intend to take up a job very soon. My blog has a simple name – My Little World of Makeup which I started in January 2013 and since then there has been no looking back. I enjoy writing especially about makeup, beauty and skin care. I used to read a lot of blogs, watch YouTube videos since 2008 and this is what I always wanted to hence starting my own blog was the first step I took & I am happy that I have come this far.
What makes your blog so unique and why should people read it?
Natasha : The essence of my blog was, is and always will be reviewing affordable make up & skin care products which may be available locally or everywhere. I never believe in spending a lot of money on makeup and I firmly believe that even the most affordable make up can make you look as good as the expensive ones. There are many unknown brands in the market which people do not know about. I have had many viewers thanking me for reviewing such products because as we know make up is very expensive in India and everyone would want to save few bucks.
How often do you blog?
Natasha : I blog 4 to 5 times a week currently and even in future I would make sure to churn out 2 – 3 posts a week as it is very important to keep your audience engaged. I would also like to get into blogging because talking on a camera is something I have always wanted but I need to sort out few things first & also need to learn editing.
What has been your most successful blog post to date and what was it about?
Natasha : There are many but my review on Essence Mono Eye Shadow in Shrimp Me up is one of the most popular post on my blog. I received 54 comments on that post. It was more popular because many bloggers who come on my blog are from US, Italy and different parts of the world and they could totally relate to it as this product may be available there. Also this brand was newly launched in India then.
What do you find most challenging about blogging?
Natasha : Posting regularly. A blog post requires a lot of work. From writing, to clicking pictures, editing, posting, sharing on social media etc. And yes of course making decent amount of money.
What are some of your favorite author blogs and why?
Natasha : Jhimil Saha of Beauty & Beyond as she has good knowledge of skin care
Megha Saraf of Makeup & Beauty Treasure because her photography skills are the best she also writes well.
Jackie Harrison from Beautify by Jackie Harrison – She is based in the US and her blog is a mixture of everything – food, lifestyle, make up & skin care.
Navaneetham Krishnan – based in Malaysia, she is a very old blogger her recipes are so yummy and she does lovely restaurant reviews, sometimes does review beauty & skin care too.
What are your favorite books that you would recommend SIW family?
Natasha : I honestly do not read books and do not get the time as well. I have loved 2 books Alchemist by Paolo Coelho and Personality Plus by Florence Littauer – this book really help in understanding different types of people.
Can we really make a living by Blogging? If yes, how we can do that?
Natasha : To be honest ‘NO’ because if that was the case most bloggers would quit their jobs & start working from home. With so many blogs around and people making a nice glossy website reviewing all the latest & expensive products, bloggers like me do not earn anything much. The only way of earning is advertising which again is so difficult to earn money from. My suggestion is to not expect much from blogging. When I started out I never expected to make money. You first need to focus on your content, money and fame would eventually come but in the current scenario one also needs to contently upgrade themselves & most of all you need to be very patient.
What advice would you give to young women readers of SIW who want to follow a similar career path as you?
Natasha : I would suggest before starting a blog is to make sure what are you blogging for? Is it a hobby or you want to do professionally and earn money? If so in today’s current blogging scenario you need to build your website gradually but content, frequent blogging, audience connection, interacting on social media is very important too.
