Thanks for taking the time to chat with SIW. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog.

Urmita : Hi , I am Urmita from my Food Blog “”Ume’s Kitchen””, Who I am ? sometimes I ask myself this question and gets answer that I am a simple “”House maker”” and always tried to be a good mom and wife through caring of my little child (Anakshi) and hubby at the same time looking after all house hold work by myself. It gives me a pleasure and I really love this.

I always had a bias towards cooking and baking and love to cook new and traditional recipes in get together ,parties and also without any reason. The passion gradually turns out in the form of Food Blog. I feel really happy now a days as it contains more than 100 well described recipes and also have Facebook page, twitter handle and Pinterest Profile.

What makes your blog so unique and why should people read it?

Urmita : I always tried to share recipes from different cuisines and regions. Tried to make the posts more informative and simple. Each post of recipes are described step by step with pictures. There is a huge collection of Baking products like breads and cakes which also attracts readers and followers.

How often do you blog?

Urmita : More or less I do blogging on daily basis which includes maintaining the Facebook page but in terms of blog posts I used to post 2 – 3 posts per week.

What has been your most successful blog post to date and what was it about?

Urmita : Till now my recipe post “Chicken Lollipop” is the most viewed and popular post of all ,its all about preparing a very well known chicken snakes preparation “Chicken Lillipop”  http://umekitchen.blogspot.in/2013/01/chicken-lillipop.html

What do you find most challenging about blogging?

Urmita : The most challenging about blogging I had faced and also facing is to make the blog as simple as it should be in terms of literature of posts and the pictorial representation of each steps of the recipes so that readers get the recipe post in its simplest form. Also I have plan to make my food blog a single point information page so that readers get all information from a single blog.

What are some of your favorite author blogs and why?

Urmita : http://www.sanjeevkapoor.com/ -prefer sometimes for baking,

http://www.vahrehvah.com/ for excellent chicken recipe

http://www.manjulaskitchen.com/ for vegetarian and many Food blogs and food magazines.

What are your favorite books that you would recommend SIW family?

Urmita : My favorite food magazine is BBC Good Food and in bengali Sananda and The first Bengali food magazine ‘Hangla Hensel’

Bong mom cook Book is my favorite also.

Can we really make a living by Blogging? If yes, how we can do that?

Urmita : If you are innovative and passionate about your hobbies and likes and also you have a very good and simple way of writing a topics or posts , blogging could be an alternative way of earning (in terms of advertisement and networks) but if one is estimating to living out of this then one has to wait till it gets mature and gets attention to readers and followers.

What advice would you give to young women readers of SIW who want to follow a similar career path as you?

Urmita : My only advice to the young women is to tell that “Believe in yourself and be passionate” and don’t expect quick success. You will find that one day you have crossed all hurdles .
