Hi Pallavi, thanks for taking the time to chat with SIW. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your work.
Pallavi : I am Pallavi Singh and I teach Hindi to the expat community based in Mumbai.
My website is: hindilessons.co.in
What inspired you to get into this profession?
Pallavi : It started out as a hobby initially but now it is more of a business which I do full time.
What is your USP?
Pallavi : My class modules are proprietary and the focus is to make classes fun and engaging. Also, since I have self-developed the teaching modules and do not teach from a book that helps.
How someone can start the same business as yours in terms of investment, material procurement, production, and marketing etc?
Pallavi : You need to have passion for teaching and doing your best for it The rest follows.
Any challenge you are facing in your profession and how you overcome that?
Pallavi : I live in one of the most chaotic cities in the world — Mumbai. Logistics and time management is crucial for my business as I have to be on time to reach my students. The biggest challenge I am facing is perhaps lack of efficient Infrastructure.
What are your plans for the future?
Pallavi : I wish to open a Hindi Language School one day!
How you manage your personal and professional life?
Pallavi : It’s your choice to do an independent business and hence it is your responsibility to make sure you manage it right. It is not always busy but I remember to make time for things that are important.
What are your favorite books that you would recommend SIW family?
Pallavi : I like books with pictures and art. I guess any art history books with interesting pictures. I do not really have any favorites.
What advice would you give to young women readers of SIW who want to follow a similar career path as you?
Pallavi : Be enthusiastic about what you are trying to achieve.
