An interview with Swarna, founder of “KraftyWaves”

Hi Swarna, thanks for taking the time to chat with SIW. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your work.

Swarna : I am Swarna, founder of KraftyWaves. A mother of two adorable daughters.

My Venture is dealing with Paper quilled products which include Earrings, Jewel Sets, Fridge magnets, Photo frames, Wall frames, Name boards, Gift boxes, Albums, Scrapbooks few in the list.

What inspired you to get into this profession?

Swarna : I was always attracted to arts and crafts.. Did experiments in different fields of crafts and last ended up in paper quilling by 2008.

I was doing this craft on and off till 2012 when the idea of starting a business struck my mind.

Lots of FB pages, fellow crafters work have inspired me to start this venture.

What is your USP?

Swarna : Each and every product of KraftyWaves is unique. I dedicate my time in deciding and implementing the designs into products keeping in mind that it does not replicate and thus attracts the customers to buy.

How someone can start the same business as yours in terms of investment, material procurement, production, and marketing etc?

Swarna : To start a similar business, investment needed is very minimum. U can even use magazine papers which can cut a lot on cost. Marketing can be done through word of mouth, fb page, etc.

Any challenge you are facing in your profession and how you overcome that?

Swarna : Competition in paper quilled jewels is high.. If the products are of good quality, unique in design, it gets sold out.

I have faced such challenges and learned a lot from it.

So, always try to make quality products, assure myself about its finish and then make it for sale.

What are your plans for the future?

Swarna : I plan to diversify my product range. A lot in list…

Gift boxes are already in list. and now started with Scrapbooking and Albums.

Let’s hope for the best.

How you manage your personal and professional life?

Swarna : Daytime is fully devoted to family. Have to make my daughter ready to school, take care of the little one.

I concentrate on my works only when kids sleep at night.

What are your favorite books that you would recommend SIW family?

Swarna : Generally, I don’t read fictions or anything of that sort.

But I do purchase a lot of craft books to refer which helps me a lot in my works.

What advice would you give to young women readers of SIW who want to follow a similar career path as you?

Swarna : Do what you love and love what you do.

Never ever leave your goal when you face a first time failure, try try and try… Till you reach it.

Take negative comments as challenges and overcome it.

Wishing everyone all success.
